I DON’T MIND WAITING

I can remember going on an interview for the Clark County School District, for the position of School Office Manager.  At that time CCSD was known to be the fifth largest District in the country; I thought surely there would be an opening for me.  I felt that I had the right combination of skills and that I would be a great asset… handling employee relations, acting as liaison between students, parents and principal, while managing the overall operation of the school office.  After going on several interviews and learning more about the job, I decided perhaps my timing was off… I was in my early twenties and lacked the maturity and wisdom that I would need to handle the complex and sensitive issues that would arise daily.  So I waited; I took a lesser role.  Then over the years as I grew in wisdom and honed my skills, I decided it was time to interview again, and this time I nailed it.  I became a successful manager.  I contributed through my areas of gifting, received numerous awards and accolades, and the greatest being, an earned retirement… making the wait so worth it!

I’m reminded of a profound song, by Juanita Bynum, entitled “I don’t mind waiting”.  At one point in my life these words were foreign to me, as I’ve continued to travel various roads throughout life, some of them bumpy and some of them smooth, I’ve learned to say “I don’t mind waiting.”  While navigating my way through retirement, I’ve made several observations and adjustments.  I’m more sedentary now than I’ve ever been; with that said, I’m more health conscious as well.  I try and monitor the amount of time I’m sitting opposed to standing.  I thought about purchasing an adjustable addition to my desk that would enable me to sit or stand while writing.  Then another thought suddenly occurred… “How about I build something specifically for me”…  Sooo I took measurements, then I went to Lowe’s and purchased supplies, then home to get started.  Day by day I connected one piece of wood to the next piece; each day I wanted to “hurry” the process, as I was filled with excitement anticipating the end result.  But there was no rushing it, I had to put patience to work, waiting until each piece was correctly placed and dried.  Then at last, it was time for the final step.  I painted my stand then placed it in the designated spot.  For $19.39, a little patience, and a little skill, I have a custom stand made to match my decor.  And…. I can enjoy writing and reading while maintaining healthy habits.  Here it is…

It has been said… Anything worth having is worth waiting for!

Romans 8:25 – But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently. (New Living Translation)

  1. First off I would like to say terrific blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you
don’t mind. I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing.

I’ve had difficulty clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out there.
I truly do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost just
trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or tips?

    Cheers! http://www.raceagainstextinction.co.za/contact-us/2013/10/10/sa-breeders-embrace-growing-asian-demand-for-lion-bones

    1. Thank you! As a child, my mom taught me the characteristics of God and ultimately who God is. I accepted Christ as Lord and Savior at the age of twelve. Shortly after, I was sitting in church when I experienced a deadly pain in my side, it immobilized me… I could not get up as church had just dismissed. My mother came over to see what was wrong with me, she called for the elders of the church as scripture notes, one of the elders layed hands on me and prayed. Instantly the pain left, I was healed! This experience increased my faith and drew me closer to Christ. That being said, when I wake up each morning, I dedicate the first hour to praying/reading/meditating. When I meditate I reflect on God’s Word and how He has manifested Himself to me and others over the years and recent. I have also journaled many experiences. This is a great way to center yourself and clear your mind. Find a quiet spot in your home; it may just be the bathroom:). When my kids were small, this worked for me. Also, when I would find myself in unpleasant situations at work, I’d take a restroom brake and pray:) If you’re not in the habit of setting aside an hour, start out with 15 minutes or so. This will make a tremendous difference in your life.

Thoughts and ideas will come all during the day as you navigate life. Here’s the thing, you want to be able to capture them all…. so I had to devise a plan. In my home I have little notepads and a pen everywhere (discretely), as I am a bit of a neat freak:)… in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, library, den/living room. I get ideas and thoughts in the shower, while I cook, or enjoy a TV program. I also keep a notepad in my car and in my purse, I have actually pulled over in a parking lot to write, so if you looked over in that lot next to you, yes that was me😂

When you have writers block, pull from your notes, let that be your starting point. Be sure to write about your experiences with others to be relatable. Then always ask yourself, “Will this inspire/ignite someone ‘s spirit or dampen/destroy their spirit?”

      Hope this helps:)

I pray in the name of Jesus, that God causes your thought process to flow, even now as you read these words. Amen!
