Many years ago, I made an appointment to have my hair styled, not just an ordinary style rather something artsy and creative. I had finally found someone who could create the perfect style of braids for me and at the right price. I had settled in, made myself comfortable and began to enjoy good conversation… The stylist shared life stories and I shared life stories as well. We talked a great deal about her transition to the United States. At times she would emphasize the differences in socio-economics, customs and culture, which I found interesting. At times she would take a “dig” at Cosmetologist, saying that they were not the best here in our country. Casually, I shared that two of my sisters ethical licensed cosmetologists. This lady continued to say unpleasant things about Cosmetologist such as, they over-charge, they give you poor service, etc. Gently, I said to her again, “My sisters are licensed cosmetologist.” By now she seemed to have been on a “roll”. She said, “All they do is lie to you, take your money and make your hair fall out.” Sooooo…. I had already been praying, “Lord I really want to get my hair style completed and not leave here with half a head of braids, so I need you to turn this situation around.” I turned and said to the lady, “There are unethical people in every profession all over the world. We can’t throw a jacket over the entire profession due to a few unfortunate incidents.” In a cool and calm voice and with love, I said, “My sisters are in this profession and they are women of a higher standard.” Sooooo…. the stylist backed off, apologized and returned to pleasant conversation and I was able to have my service completed in peace and liberty:)
There’s a time to pray, There’s a time to take a stand…. There is a time to speak up, There is a time to pray again…
Phil. 4:6 – Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
