Ahhh… just returned from a trip to New Orleans by way of Houston. When planning a trip South, I always look forward to the awesome southern hospitality, and good eats! Although the purpose of the trip was to celebrate my niece graduation from high school, with honors:), I thought I would sneak in a visit to some of my favorite food spots along the way… not an easy thing to do when you’re traveling with a group… and did I say a group of family members:)
There are many scenarios to contend with when traveling in a group. You have the early risers who get up, gets showered, dressed and ready to get the party started. Then you have those who rise, pit-a-pat around, take their time getting dressed and arrive to the party whenever. Some family members are anxious to get to the next scheduled event while others make pit stops along the way. Then there are those who are not where they should be for pick-up, so additional stops are made. When it’s time to dine, one wants a burger, another wants pasta, then another wants pizza… then some are not ready to eat at all. When it comes to planning extra activities… some want to visit the zoo, others the water and others a trip to the $1.00 store works just fine.
Of all my years of travels with an active group of family members, I have discovered that there is an art to successfully moving a large group. First and far most, you have to wear shoes of endurance, patience and love. Second, practice kindness, selflessness and teamwork. Third, maintain a great attitude! I’m not saying these things will deliver an expected outcome of peace during the entirety of the trip, however, if you remind yourself of the purpose of the trip, much is to be gained. When we come together as family, there is so much to learn from sharing with one another. Nothing beats the tender closeness of spending time communicating and hanging out with family. These are treasured memories that a photograph alone won’t tell!
Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! Psalm 133:1
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. I Peter 4:8
