Take Up Your Cross

The phrase “take up your cross” has had mixed opinions throughout the generations.  If you were to ask for an explanation, you would probably get answers like, “My cross is my co-worker, my next door neighbor, a choir member, my sister or my brother.”  The cross as we define it is any devastating affliction or extremely painful situation, or trying  situations, which would all be correct.  Taking up our cross is putting up with these ongoing challenges.  If it makes it any better, no one is exempt we all have a cross to bear… however, does Jesus minimize the baring of the cross to our personal pain… the cross means so much more.  It is God’s tool of redemption, an opportunity an open door for others to come to Him.  And finally, His love demonstrated for His lost creation.  So when you take up your cross, you are taking up Christ’s burden for all people of the world.

Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth it shall die. Ez. 18:4
