During ancient biblical times soldiers would arm and gird themselves with the necessary weapons to become victorious in battle. Although the weapons that we use are not carnal, there is yet a compelling need to gear up and be prepared to do spiritual battle each day. Our enemy takes no vacations! He seeks daily to devour. Paul wrote to the church in Ephesus, reminding them of the necessity to put on their full “battle gear” and take a “stand” against the enemy. He further encouraged them to prayerfully gird up with truth – pull in any loose ends of hypocrisy with the belt of truth, put on the breastplate of righteousness to protect the heart, put on their shoes of peace proclaiming the good news, take up their shield of faith continually trusting God, protecting them from Satan’s fiery darts, put on the helmet of salvation, protecting their head their mind from doubt and damaging thoughts, the sword of the Spirit – the Word of God that’s more powerful than any weapon of the enemy, used offensively and defensively to fend off attacks. Then finally, the Apostle Paul said to the church at Ephesus and to us today… first and far most, “Stand”… don’t drop your weapons and run! Don’t surrender, don’t worry, don’t fear…. Take a firm position against this enemy! Be encouraged and “Stand” in Victory!
Stand!
