How many times have you heard someone say, “I can’t wait til I’m retired, I’m going to travel, travel, then travel some more, see the world! I’m going to go to sleep as late as I please and wake whenever I please. In fact, I’m going to do whatever I want to do.” Some people have it all figured out in greater detail… they plan to spend more time with grand kids, volunteer at their favorite non-profit, do more gardening, learn how to knit or crochet, or maybe participate in weekly Bingo.
Here is my take on Retirement… If you are retiring from a full time job, your mind and body is accustomed to being “on the go”. It will take some time for you to make the adjustment from working full time hours, for so many years to not working at all. Whether you have a retirement plan or not its okay… take the time to explore… it’s your time! Reinvent yourself! Do something rewarding, fulfilling… something that brings you joy. If you have a job that you enjoy, keep it! Don’t retire! If your job offers minimal stress and is fulfilling… keep doing it. Just take extended vacations; or you could even be creative with your vacation time… take three days off from time to time, and enjoy a mini vacation…
In retirement, there is only so many hobbies you can do… perhaps you should retire then do something entirely different, learn a new trade, or go back to school then start a new career. Now is the time to be creative and explore; there is so much more to do. Keep investing in you and being the best you that you can be!
