Curtain Call

Will you be ready?

On Sunday mornings Mom would rise early to prepare for Sunday worship.  As Mom would prepare for such a long day, she would pack snacks that us kids would enjoy, then she’d cook a Sunday feast to have ready when we would return home.  She would get everything ready, then pack the station wagon with treats and us kids.  No matter how diligently she would work at instructing, priming, prepping and gathering… there would be some of us who’d straggle along, distracted by playing, talking and just plain old rebelling.  Mom would call out to us, “Alright now, you better hurry up and get ready, or you’ll be left.”  Sometimes she would say, “If you’re not ready, you’ll have to have your daddy bring you to church.”  Well… we knew what that meant… you’d get a tongue lashing that you wouldn’t forget, and sure enough, there would be those who straggled, missed the boat, got left behind…

Has there been times in your life when you just weren’t ready… perhaps for an important test, you didn’t study enough you didn’t get enough sleep…  or a job promotion, you neglected to sharpen your set of skills…  In this life we have many missed opportunities.  In fact, we can have our “take two” moments because of God’s grace.  But soon there will be a “final curtain call”.  Jesus will arrive with His reward in hand, He will make the final announcement, “We’ll done my daughter! You ran well! You finished your course! You kept the faith! Come and receive your reward!

Behold, I am coming quickly!  Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. Rev. 3:11

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Heb. 11:6
